The 1st JAM Youth Career & Soft Skills Professional Development Camp has been a great success. Our students are youth & teens; males & females; grades 6-11. MCST, Chastain Middle, Vigor HS & Williamson HS are represented.
Each student received and earned a $50 gift card for school from their hard work with participation.
As members they have our support system as students throughout the year and free admittance to all of our events.
We introduce, teach, train & place our young in the career opportunities within The Mobile Port Authority, Trades & Airport Authority.

Throughout the school year we will host camps, workshops, courses & events that bring our curriculum to the students of Africatown, MCTS & MCPSS. The JAM Youth After School & Out of School Time Snack Program or Whippett Wednesdays was created in Spring of 2024 to provide healthy & delicious snacks to the students of The Mobile County Training School Whippetts in the Africatown, Alabama village of Mobile. Africatown is the village where the African captives from the last ship carrying our people into the slave trade in 1859.
The snack program is free to students and used an an incentive to promote and empower students to maximize their ability to learn. This program is also used to encourage students who may fall out of compliance with school rules or need motivation to participate in the learning process with their full attention.
We seek support, sponsors and donations to administer this program throughout the school year after school & on scheduled Saturdays for Social Recreation.
9 Month Program offered during the school year In 3 Modules: Fall, Winter, Spring & Summer
During the school year we operate through workshops, camps, events & classes on scheduled Saturday mornings
Youth & Family Fitness Programs/Camps + Performance Training for Student-Athletes. Speed Training, Evaluations, Strength, Conditioning, Flexibility, Mobility and Sports Psychology. Students in the Africatown communities come by for free snacks after school. There are books to read or they can just relax after a hard day of work at school. It is an incentive to motivate them to do well in school.

Africatown’s own Cleon Jones has dedicated his life after retiring from major league baseball to the development of his community. He is a graduate of Mobile County Training School, a historic school that’s among the oldest schools in the state founded in 1888. His accomplishments: 1969 World Series and MLB All-State. Halls of Fame: NY Mets, State of NY & Alabama; Mobile Sports HOF, Alabama A & M among many other awards.
Cle is the son of Cleon Sr. and a graduate of CF Vigor HS after attending middle school at MCTS. At Vigor in Football: 2x State Champion, 1988 ESPN National title; AL HS Team of the 20 Century, All Area, All Region & All America; Baseball All-Area, Region & America; USA Junior Olympic Baseball Team; Scholarship/Letterman at The University of South Carolina, SEC; 1994 CarQuest Bowl,1st Bowl winning team in school history; Professional Football Player & Coach; Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Baltimore Ravens, ARENA Pro Football; Indoor Pro Football All time leading rusher from scrimmage; CF Vigor Hall of Fame, City of Mobile Sports Hall of Fame, USC Gamecock Honors 2014, 25 plus years in education; 25 plus years working with youth; High School Region, Area, & State Champion @Blount HS; Multiple Youth Football/Baseball Titles; NFL Hall of Fame Youth 14U National Tournament #6 in USA; published author
